Integrity
is much more than being honest.
Integrity
deals with consistency;
It’s
not only about telling the truth in front of people,
but
whether we remain consistently truthful
even when nobody is listening.
You’re probably familiar with the “little
white lie (LWL)”. Most of us have used
this tactic at one time or another and largely because we didn’t want to hurt
someone’s feelings…or so we told
ourselves.
If
we lose our honor, we lose our self
We ARE our word and a half-truth is still
a whole lie.
Those in our circle won’t
be upset that we lied to them, but that they can no longer believe
us.
OUCH!
When I finally made a commitment
(to myself) that I would no longer take the easy way out by telling the LWL, I
began to notice how many people still relied upon it. It was everywhere; in fact, it was so prevalent that when I
bucked up and told the truth, I got looked at as though I had three heads!
OUCH!
The truth is nothing to
fear. We can chose to follow
our inner compass and make a commitment to go beyond where we have ever
been.
The
Five Levels of Truth-Telling:
First,
you tell the truth to yourself about yourself.
Then
you tell the truth to yourself about another.
At
the third level, you tell the truth about yourself to another.
Then
you tell your truth about another to that other.
And
finally, you tell the truth to everyone about everything.
