OBLIGATION: LOVE or FEAR?

OBLIGATION:  LOVE or FEAR?

Happiness cannot thrive within the prison of obligation.
Live wild, life free, live as master of your own fate.

- Jonathan Lockwood Huie

Do you remember the flurry of excitement at the holidays when you were just a child?  There is something special in the air at this time of year.

Unless, of course, you find yourself getting stressed out for any number of reasons:  extra long hours at work, not enough money to cover your holiday expenses, illness, family get togethers ...

 OBLIGATION!
obligation opportunity

Although many are quick to defend “obligation” as a loved-based attitude and/or action, it is actually based on fear.

To demonstrate this claim, take a look at this list of common fears, which often lead to obligation.  How many do you identify with (from mild to strong)?

I am afraid of:
  •    Losing my family member's approval
  •    Getting my family member angry with me
  •    Getting the “silent treatment”
  •    My family member getting into danger or legal trouble
  •    My family member self-harming or attempting suicide
  •    My family member getting depressed
  •    Being thought of as “selfish”
  •    Taking responsibility
  •    Being found out
  •    Being a bad son/daughter/parent
  •    Fear of abandonment
  •    Fear of retaliation
  •    People thinking that I’m a bad person
  •    Loss of love/friendship/companionship
  •    Losing contact with or custody of my children
  •    Being alone or living by myself
  •    Being called names or being embarrassed in public
  •    Being threatened
  •    Becoming depressed
  •    Failing to live up to expectations
  •    Confrontation
  •    Getting angry
  •    Losing control

“When our sense of obligation is stronger than our sense of self-respect and self-caring, blackmailers quickly learn how to take advantage”

- Forward and Frazier, 1997

SETTING BOUNDARIES:  A HEALTHY OPPORTUNITY

Frankly, the only obligation that feels right to me is the one to Self. Taking care of and loving our Self  is vital.  Setting emotional boundaries is of the utmost importance and eliminates being taken advantage of.

The quickest way to establish boundaries is to be consistent.  Mean what you say!

Remember, in order to be used, we must allow it (albeit, at the subconscious level).  It may not feel like a choice, but I assure you, it is!

Wishing you the happiest of holiday season, complete with LOVE!

WHAT WILL YOU LEAVE BEHIND?

Our heirs inherit the legacy of our personality.

Let that thought linger for just a moment. Our children, spirit-children and younger relatives all come into what we leave behind both emotionally and energetically.
What will you leave behind?

What this means:
We have firmly imprinted the younger generation with  wounds we carry form our own childhood.  Period.

We may very well be unaware of the impact our cluttered past has on our children.  Many are simply trying to survive and may be stuck in a revolving door of fear, which often manifests as anger, relationship issues, substance abuse, depression, physical illness, career challenges and overall lack of well-being.
Cutting the cords to the past

Cutting energetic cords (releasing toxic people, places and events) to the past is a powerful game-changer!  During an intuitive healing session, my goal is to explore and discover, then sever these cords.  It is profound energy work at the *subtle energy level and can be life-altering.  Many report feeling lighter instantly!  When confronted with people and/or situations that formerly caused a great deal of stress and tension, we may notice no further "charge", thus freeing us from undesirable and unhealthy emotional reaction.

What legacy will you leave the generation following you?

* Subtle energy is considered tenuous or rarefied energy.  To many, it is evasive, mysterious and hard to grasp or trace.  As a healer (a clairvoyant medium who has the ability to stimulate energy), I am able to "see" this energy, which allows me to release or cut away that which no longer serves the highest good.

WHAT'S YOUR "CURRENCY"?

Are you always AGREEABLE as a form of CURRENCY?
Human nature is infinitely intriguing.  Paying close attention, you may notice that certain individuals use what I like to call "currency" as a means to an end.

There are many forms of currency.  For example, "Joe" is described as loving, kind and always there for others but never asks for anything in return, and never burdens others with his concerns.  He is seen by many as a wonderful person, in deed.  However, underneath all the giving (of his time, advice, gifts, etc.) there may be a secret desire to have others like or love him.  He may not be consciously aware of this, but it is there and guiding his actions, all the same.

Do you give GIFTS as a form of CURRENCY?
Using this example, we can see that Joe's offer is not unconditional, although on the surface it may appear so, because he never overtly asks for anything in return.

Do you use HUMOR as a form of CURRENCY?
Ah, but he DOES want something; to be accepted, liked or even loved.  If he doesn't feel a return on his "investment", he may become resentful or quietly angry. Over time, this feeling of unreciprocated "kindness" builds and begins to show up in his passive aggressive actions.

What's your currency?  Challenging ourselves to look below the surface of our actions is healthy and enlightening.

Take the CURRENCY CHALLENGE.  Look at yourself; see what's there; do not judge what you see; grow from the discovery.

MASKED FEELINGS

I get a great deal of information for clients psychically, but most of my own personal messages come to me in dreams.

My dreams have always been very vivid, sometimes epic sagas.  I try to record them as soon as I begin to wake up as recall is best at that moment.

Face Mask
Last night my mother (who has been deceased for nine years) showed up in my dream.  It was her birthday.  She asked me how I was doing, and I replied as I always did, “I’m fine.”  She stepped away from me and speaking to my father (who has been deceased 35 years) and said, “this is the one child I’ve always worried about.  I can never tell how she really feels.  She says she’s fine but I’m not always sure that’s what’s really going on.”

As she walked away, I pondered.  Was she right?  Yes.

For her birthday, my gift to her was to express my true feelings.  This was a BIG deal!  I wrote to my mom, telling her that she was right; I didn’t let others know how I really felt.  I told her that my need to protect myself started very young, when I didn’t feel safe enough to divulge how I really felt.  My angry and abusive dad made it impossible to open up.  Her mental illness was like deaf ears.

I have consciously worked on being open and honest about my feelings and encourage others to do the same.  I have been more open than ever in personal relationships, especially within the last 10 years, with an emphasis on non-judgment while I remain honest about how I feel.  Even so, sometimes, when I am asked point-blank about how I feel, I have to really dig deep and search for those emotions.  And, sometimes, the feeling still evade my reach, at least at first.

This is real growth and I know it.  I have to remind myself often, however, that this is good – very good.  What happens is that the people we work the hardest to stay in balance with sometimes shy away when we actually find our emotional equilibrium.  That’s because, to them, the rules have changed and they don’t know how to relate to us any longer.  Unless…unless they, too have opted to challenge themselves to personal growth. That’s best case scenario, but, it doesn’t always work out that way.  Further growth happens when we accept that fact and let it be.

truth

Most Common Dream Symbols

These symbols are the most requested symbols in dream psychology (listed in alphabetical order). Their interpretations are meant as starting points and will vary in their meaning depending upon the individual dreamer.
Baby - New birth; vulnerability, or your need for love. Also your pure, innocent, true self (non-ego). It may represent some new development in your life.

Blanket – Depending on context, a protection or a hiding from self and others.

Camera – Perception of experiences. Preserving the truth. A caution to recall things factually.

Circle – Wholeness, completeness; infinity. The circle may mean you’ve completed a cycle or have grown into wholeness of body, mind and spirit. If presented as a merry-go-round or movement in circles, you are not getting on with your life and lessons; you literally are going around in circles.

Crying – Release of stress and tension, frustration; if tears of joy may be resolving a problem, working through blocks.

Death - Changes in one's life, something is coming to an end. Very seldom does death symbolize physical crossing. The old is dying and with the death of the old comes new beginnings.

Elevator - Moving up means going in the right direction, getting a higher perspective; moving down means going in the wrong direction; down can also mean you are exploring deep-rooted problems.

Falling - Your real life fear of letting go of something or someone. It also may suggest a loss of control in a situation. Low energy. May also be a “bad landing” coming back into your body at night.

Father – Wiser, more mature masculine self; the wise old man within.

Hair – Power flowing from the crown chakra or higher spiritual center; the longer the hair, the more power. If body hair, means protection and warmth.

House – The Self. The rooms or different floors may represent emotions, attitudes. The basement represents the deep unconscious.

Killing - Repression/suppression of some aspect of yourself - you want or need to kill that part of your personality. Also putting an end to negative feelings or unwanted situations in one's life.

Kiss – Affection, warmth, communication; a show of intention. Also, the kiss of betrayal.

Marriage - A blending of intellectual and intuitive parts or masculine and feminine aspects of oneself. A bridge between the conscious mind and the unconscious self (as in dreams).

Money - Changes. Paper money indicate big changes; coins, small changes. Take note of any numbers and find their meaning(s). For instance, five often symbolizes changes in life.

Mother – Older, wiser, more experienced part of the female self. Nurturing.

Naked - Being nude may symbolize the 'naked truth' about oneself. Totally open and exposed. It may be an expression for childhood innocence and freedom from artificial inhibitions.

People - Different aspects of oneself; emotions, attitudes, desires, fears, etc. Look to the particular characteristics of a person or persons in the dream.

Ring – Promise; eternal perspective. The ring of truth.

Roads - Your direction, or path in life; the road you are following (may need changing or modifications). Examine whether paved, rocky or dirt; winding or straight; going up hill or down. Conditions of road suggest how you are creating your life at this moment. If you are at a fork in the road, you are approaching a major decision.

School - Lessons in life. Self-understanding is learning to know yourself (psychological). Life's experiences. Have you learned from them or do you ignore what is evident for what is convenient?

Sex - Sex with a partner may symbolize a unification of unconscious aspects (in your life) to a conscious realization. Uniting parts of oneself that was previously separated due to repression/suppression. Desire to merge aspects of the self with qualities of the sex partner in the dream.

Stairs - Going upstairs symbolizes going in the right direction; conscious thinking. Downstairs, going in the wrong direction.

Teacher - Your higher self (spiritual or creative). Insights that show you the way on your path.

Teeth – Grinding up, tearing something into small pieces in order to digest it; beginning the understanding process. Strength, intention; put some teeth into it. Need to verbalize. If your teeth are falling out, you are unable to understand a problem or situation; something is too tough to swallow.

Telephone – If you are making a phone call, you are asking for help or understanding in a situation; or it is necessary for you to do so in order to gain clarity. If someone is calling you, your guidance is trying to get your attention with an important message.

Television – Medium to get a better look at your life; communication with self.

Vehicles –You in your daily physical life. Are you driving (in control), in the back or passenger seat (not in control). A bus may symbolize yourself and the passenger’s aspects of your personality.

Water - Emotions. Are you drowning in your emotions? Is the water frozen (frozen emotions), smooth or rough seas?
